Frequently asked questions

The audio stops when I lock my phone or switch apps.
Pink Tomato is built to keep playing in the background. If it stops, check that Background App Refresh is enabled for Pink Tomato in Settings, and that Low Power Mode isn't restricting background audio.
Can I use the media keys or Control Center to pause?
Yes. Playback appears in Control Center and on the lock screen, and responds to hardware media keys on macOS and to CarPlay controls in a vehicle.
Does the sleep timer fade out?
Yes — the last 30 seconds fade smoothly rather than cutting to silence abruptly.
Is there a subscription?
No. Pink Tomato is free, with no advertising and no in-app purchases.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up and no login.
Does it work offline?
Yes. All soundscapes are generated or bundled on-device, so no network connection is needed to play anything.

Overview

Pink Tomato is a focus and ambient sound app. It requires no account, shows no advertising, and does not build a profile of you. The only data that ever leaves your device is anonymous crash diagnostics, described in full below.

What Pink Tomato does not do

Local storage

Your preferences — selected soundscape, timer settings and volume levels — are stored locally on your device using standard platform storage (SharedPreferences on Android, UserDefaults on iOS and macOS). This data stays on your device and is never transmitted.

Crash diagnostics

Pink Tomato uses Sentry (sentry.io), a third-party error monitoring service, to report crashes so they can be diagnosed and fixed. This is the only third-party service in the app, and the only circumstance in which any data leaves your device.

Sent when the app crashes or hits an unexpected error:

Explicitly not sent: no personally identifiable information, no screenshots, no performance or behavioural tracing. These are disabled in the app's configuration rather than merely left at their defaults.

Crash reports are retained by Sentry for a limited period and used solely to fix defects.

Children's privacy

Pink Tomato contains no advertising, no social features, no user-generated content and no purchases, and it collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The crash diagnostics described above contain no personal information and apply equally to all users.

Your choices

Because no personal data is collected, there is nothing to export or delete. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored preferences. If you would like crash diagnostics from your device deleted, email the address below with the approximate date and device model and it will be removed.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
